sandstone is our warmest expression of the béton bowl. it arrives as winter lets go, which is the right season for it: the months when the light comes back long and warm, and a room opens to it.

here we explain why we chose it, how it carries the traits SABI was built on, and where it lives best in a real interior.

WARMTH DEFINED

concrete softens a room; the colourway decides how it feels once it has. classic concrete is the tone you notice, charcoal is the one that recedes, and sandstone is the one that warms. where charcoal absorbs the light, sandstone gives it back warm. it is the object that makes a space feel lived-in and at ease.

each colourway in the béton collection belongs to an australian city. sandstone is Brisbane, the capital of the sunshine state: always warm, held between the gold coast and the sunshine coast, the tone of the sand it sits between. bold, textured, sophisticated, the three traits SABI was drawn from, rendered in a single tone.

THE COLOUR IS THE BODY

the process behind every béton bowl lets the object live as an interior piece and perform as a bowl through the daily ritual of feeding. the sandstone tone is blended through the mix at casting, not applied to the surface, so if the vessel ever wears you will never expose a different colour beneath. the tone and the character hold, consistent over the years.

after casting and cure, we finish each piece with a light acid-wash that opens the surface by a fraction. the result is a matte, tactile profile that catches the light only where it should: along the edges, across the planes, the way afternoon sun settles into sandstone.

WHERE IT BELONGS

sandstone belongs where a room draws its warmth. it is the tone designers reach for in a feature wall or a fireplace surround, the organic texture that holds a focal point and gives a space depth. the béton vessel does the same at the scale of a bowl, a warm centre a room can settle around.

it bridges the rough beauty of natural stone and the restraint of a modern room, and it lets the daily ritual of feeding sit in the open rather than hidden away. the warmth belongs where they eat.

WHAT IT PAIRS WITH

sandstone rewards pairing, and it wants a balance of textures. set it against rich timber, dark walnut or charred oak, where the wood draws out its earthy undertone, or against a sharp metal, blackened steel or brushed bronze, which keeps the soft stone reading as deliberate rather than rustic. linen and wool in cream, beige or olive sit alongside it and soften the room without competing.

for something quieter, hold it against smooth microcement or polished concrete, the rough grain meeting a seamless finish. and for contrast with intent, set it near polished marble, matte against gloss, the balance designers reach for when a warm palette should feel considered, not plain.
